St. Peter’s English Medium School

Started in 2000, this school set out in earnest to help educate children in the rural village Kothapallamitta in the Chitoor District of Andhra Pradesh. The first classes were held in the shade of a tree outside a small church in the village. Since then growth has been a real and organic experience that has watched new buildings be created and new children receive a quality English based education.

St. Peters EMS The original mission of the school was to help Dalit, or Untouchable, youth receive education in a society where caste discrimination is still a reality. In its mission to promote equality the school welcomes children from surrounding villages of all castes and religions.

The D. deVoe Foundation has been started to provide scholarships for these children to attend the St. Peter’s English Medium School. As it does not receive direct funding from the state government it does charge nominal tuition fees. However, these nominal fees can prove to be a huge barrier for families who rely on tenant farming and small trade to provide a living for their families.
